What is the Werewolf of Defiance Ohio Theory?

There are a few reasons that this theory exists.

  • The dogs howling at the end of Riley’s Last Message
  • The dog-like appearance on the picture Riley drew
  • Primal grunts of Attacker in Riley’s Last Message

The picture Riley drew of the person really does not seem human. They kind of look like a wolf or perhaps a werewolf. We also hear a lot of howling in Riley’s last message and of course whoever the attacker also has lots of grunts and noises that look like a possible werewolf. The attacker also seems charged up by all the howling.

The Werewolf Of Defiance Ohio History

There is a pretty large urban legend/news story from Defiance Ohio about The Werewolf Of Defiance.

What is that you ask? WELL LET US EXPLORE THIS REAL-LIFE MYSTERY FOR A MOMENT…

Defiance Ohio is a small town about 55 miles south of Toledo, Ohio.

On July 25th 1972, it was reported to the Defiance police by two railway workers at N&W local freight, Ted Davis and Tom Johns that a werewolf attacked them late at night. During an interview with the Toledo Blade he said, “I saw these two hairy feet. Then I looked up and he was standing there with a big stick over his shoulder. When I started to say something, he took off for the woods.” The creature was also described as having, “huge, hairy feet, fangs, and it ran side-to-side like a caveman in the movies.”

The creature had the body of a man but the head of a wolf! It also attacked the rail workers with a club and not claws. But these two workers were not the only ones to actually see the creature.

Later on, a different employee also reported to the police a wolf creature at the railway station. He thought someone was playing a joke until all the employees at the railroad were accounted for.

A week after that a grocer driving home at night saw a wolfman in his headlights!

There were enough reports that the Defiance Ohio Police department had to open an investigation into… werewolves in the area. It is even reported in the various newspapers in Ohio. Chief Donald Breckler who covered the case said “We don’t know what to think”. The police initially didn’t release it to the media, but after multiple reports, they had to start taking it seriously.

Eventually, after days of looking with no result, the case was closed. Many people thought it was a prank but during this experience, people were actually afraid that there was either a creature or some individual dressing up and attacking people.

Defiance, Ohio supposedly has a lot of strange phenomena like UFO’s so perhaps a paranormal area.

Michigan Dogman

Nearby in Michigan (right next to Ohio), there is a local legend of Michigan Dogman that goes back all the way to 1887. It was a seven-foot tall, blue-eyed, or amber-eyed bipedal canine-like animal with the torso of a man and a fearsome howl that sounds like a human scream. So these wolfman creatures were known to be in the area for many years according to legend.

What does all this have to do with the Paranormal Paranoids?

Well, currently not much. There are an awful lot of howling, wolves, dogs, coyotes at the end of Riley’s Last Message as well as in the background of the Police Answering machine message.

Ohio is also the location of everything in the show so far.

Is it possible that this myth is what attacked Riley and the crew? It is just a theory at this point but it’s an interesting little bit of paranormal Ohio real-life mysteries so we are sharing it here.
